The Indigo Boubou — Hand-Dyed Adire

The cloth
Adire is a Yoruba resist-dyeing tradition from south-west Nigeria. The pattern is made by tying and stitching the cloth before it goes into the indigo, so the bound areas hold back the dye. It is done by hand, one length at a time.
Which means your piece will not be identical to the photograph. The indigo will pool a little deeper in one place, the pattern will break somewhere the sample did not. That is the cloth telling you a person made it.
